Words of Support

“After eight years of planning and community meetings, the Mission Rock Initiative presents an exciting opportunity to turn an asphalt parking lot into 600 affordable rental homes, neighborhood-serving retail and thousands of construction and permanent jobs. With more than 8 acres of parks and open space, Mission Rock also opens up public access to the waterfront.”

—Mayor Ed Lee

“Mission Rock touches all the bases. It has reasonable heights, several acres of parks and open space and hundreds of new rental homes affordable to lower-income and middle-class San Franciscans — the most ever for a private project in our City’s history. This project will bring a spark to what is an unfinished area, transforming it into a vibrant neighborhood.”

—Former Mayor Art Agnos

“Mission Rock puts affordable housing, parks and open space and thousands of jobs in the right place for San Francisco. It’s an exciting project that adds so much to San Francisco without displacing anyone. That’s why I am supporting Prop D, it’s just a win-win for our city.”

—London Breed, President, Board of Supervisors

“The fact that you have 40% affordable units, near the waterfront for regular people. That makes a big difference.”

—Supervisor David Campos

“I’m thrilled! We’re more than excited. We are hungry for a project like this!”

—Sunny Schwartz, Neighbor

“Over the years, I’ve been to a number of public workshops. The Giants have listened to us and taken our feedback and adjusted Mission Rock because of what we’ve said.”

—Katy Liddell, Neighbor

“Mission Rock is the perfect location for things that are there right now. Existing lines and planned lines like the Central Subway, the E line and then you have Caltrain right there.”

—Tom Nolan, SFMTA Board Member

“It brings life to an outdated waterfront and puts a sizable dent in the city-wide concern about housing costs and availability. It also sets a new standard in affordable pricing, a model for future proposals. Vote yes on Proposition D.”

—San Francisco Chronicle, Editorial

“Mission Rock is a very exciting addition to San Fransisco and will be a wonderful new neighborhood on the waterfront.”

—Darcy Brown, San Francisco Beautiful

“Proposition D includes 5 acres of open space right along the waterfront, opposite China Basin across from the ballpark. It’ll include a promenade all the way around Pier 48. It’ll be a huge transformation and improvement over what we have now.”

—Matt O'Grady, Executive Director, San Francisco Parks Alliance

“It introduces something that is sorely needed in the Mission Bay community and that is a community place.”

—Dean Macris, Former San Francisco Planning Director
